Health disparities are differences in health and health outcomes that are linked to social, economic, and environmental disadvantage. These differences typically put a higher burden of stress, illness, disability, and mortality on marginalized groups who have systematically experienced greater obstacles to health due to historical discrimination or exclusion based on their race or ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or geographic location.
